ICG or Indian Coast Guard is that Indian Defence force which protects Indian Maritime Interests by enforcing Indian Maritime Law. The ICG has a close cooperation with Indian Navy, Department of Custom Revenue and Department of Fisheries.
The ICG offers different coast guard officer ranks for candidates. They are General-Duty Officers, Pilot Officers, Technical Officers, Law Officers. There are two enrolled personnel category: Yantrik and Navik. While Yantrik are the technicians, navik are the sailors.
Candidates recruited as Yantrik are responsible for mechanical, electrical or aeronautical maintenance and the on-board systems of the Coast Guard vessels & aircrafts. So the candidates aspiring to build their career as an Indian Coast Guard Officer can apply for Indian Coast Guard recruitment.

Candidates can apply for Indian Coast Guard Yantrik through online mode. No other mode is applicable for filling application form. Candidates can visit the official website, www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in and click on Opportunities button to apply online.
Candidates should fill up the form with all the required details, i.e. name of the candidate, parent name, date of birth etc. All the details should be mentioned according to any relevant document such as Birth certificate, Pass Certificate of 10th standard etc. Candidates also have to mention their exact Diploma percentage of marks. Candidates should also provide their email address and contact number.
Successfully registered candidates will get a Registration Number which the candidates should note down for future reference. Candidates have to use their registration number for Admit card retrieval and print out.
The Indian Coast Guard Yantrik Recruitment Board lays down the following eligibility criteria for the recruitment of candidates:
Candidates must have matriculation qualification or equivalent and minimum of 60% aggregate marks of Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering from any AICTE recognized university.
A relaxation in marks of minimum 5% is given for SC/ST candidates and outstanding National Level sports person obtaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in any sports field. Upper marks relaxation is also applicable to Deceased Coast Guard Uniform Personnel’s Wards (Deceased while Service).
The maximum age limit is 22 years and minimum age limit is 18 years. So candidates born between 1st February 1996 and 31st January 2000 are applicable. Upper age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates).
Candidates must be physically as well as psychologically fit according to a certified medical institution.
Pay Scale and Allowances
Candidates are recruited with a Basic pay of Rs. 29200/-. In addition candidates are paid Yantrik pay of Rs. 6200/- (7th pay commission implementation). Along with these they have Dearness Allowance and considering the nature of duty/place of posting other allowances are paid.
Promotional scope of recruited candidates is up till the post of Pradhan Sahayak Engineer with a Basic Pay of Rs. 47600/- + Yantrik Pay @ Rs. 6200/- along with other allowances (7th Pay Commission Implementation).
Successfully registered candidates can download their admit card from the official portal, http://joininidiancoastguard.gov.in or use this link to reprint their admit card, http://joininidiancoastguard.gov.in/reprint.aspx . Candidates must carry their respective admit cards as hall pass. Candidates without admit cards are not applicable for sitting in test.
Candidates are selected through 3 Stages – Written Exam, Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Inspection/Examination. Candidates qualifying the first stage move to the second stage and the third stage respectively.
Written exam: Eligible candidates first have to sit for a written examination.
Physical Efficiency Test: PET is conducted for those candidates who qualify the first stage. The PET consists of 3 rounds:
- Candidates must complete 1.6 km run in 7 minutes.
- 20 squat-ups for the candidates.
- Candidates have to perform 10 push ups.

Medical Inspection: Candidates have to undergo a medical examination declaring their mental and physical fitness status. Candidates clearing Stage 2 will be eligible for Stage 3.
