CLAT 2018: Common Law Admission Test Application Form, Eligibility, Exam Dates

CLAT 2018 Exam Dates are declared now and candidates have pulled up their socks to perform in flying colors. 18 National Law Universities (NLUs) rotationally conduct Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is the most prestigious national level law entrance exam. Candidates seeking admission in integrated LL.B. and LL.M. programme can also participate in this renowned exam to secure their admission in one of the most reputed law colleges in India. Second Sunday of May month is a fixed date for conduction of CLAT. Hence in 2018, it will fall on 13th May. CLAT 2018 Application Form

  • CLAT 2018 application form will be available through online mode only.
  • 1st Jan 2018 is the announced date for application form issuance.
  • Aspirants need to register themselves by creating their log ids through email.
  • While filling the application form, students are asked to fill the preference order for NLU’s
  • Uploading scanned copies of signature and photograph (30 mm x 45 mm) with size not more than 100 KB is also an inevitable step for the candidates.
  • Correction facility for CLAT 2018 application will also be provided by the regulatory body.
  • CLAT office will not entertain the hard copy sent by any medium.
  • CLAT 2018 application form will be filled online only.

Eligibility Criteria

CLAT 2018 eligibility criteria have been consolidated by the authority by including percentage of marks, qualification, age, etc. Read further to know about the eligibility criteria for UG & PG courses available under CLAT:

For UG Courses:

  • Age Criteria: No upper age limit is applicable to appear in CLAT 2018 exam.
  • Qualification: Senior secondary in any discipline with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) is the major qualification needed to appear in CLAT.
  • Candidates, who will appear the 12th examination in March/April 2018, will also be permitted to attempt CLAT 2018. Such candidates need to present senior secondary passing certificate at the time of admission.

For PG Courses:

  • Qualifying Examination: LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. (Hons.)/any other equivalent exam is the major qualification needed to appear in CLAT to get admission in LLM.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates from general category/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) should have at least 55% in qualifying exam. In case of SC/ST, the minimum marks would be 50%.
  • Candidates pursuing final semester/final year examination may also apply.
  • Age Limit: No upper age limit is applicable to appear in the exam.

CLAT 2018 Exam Pattern

For UG Courses:

  • Courses: CLAT online exam will be conducted for integrated UG law courses.
  • Mode of Examination: It’s only a computer based online test.
  • Type of Questions: MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) of maximum 200 marks will be asked from each section.
  • Exam Duration: CLAT exam will be of maximum 2 hours.
  • Question Paper Medium: The question paper can be attempted in English only.
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark for each right answer will be credited.
  • Negative Marking: ¼ marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

  • Exam Duration: CLAT exam will be of maximum 2 hours.
  • Question Paper Medium: The question paper can be attempted in English only.
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark for each right answer will be credited.
  • Negative Marking: ¼ marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CLAT 2018 Syllabus

The major subjects covered under the CLAT Syllabus are General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, Mathematics (taught up to 10th class), and English with Comprehensive Section. On the other hand, the PG test syllabus encompasses Jurisprudence Law, Constitutional Law, and other legal subjects like Torts, Contract, International Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights and environmental Law.

CLAT Question Papers

CLAT previous years’ question papers can be helpful for the candidates and they can be downloaded from the official website of CLAT after paying Rs. 4000/- through Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking. Only the soft copy of the question papers is available; no hard copy will be dispatched by CLAT office.

CLAT Admit Card 2018

  • The candidates who have successfully registered can download their admit cards from official website.
  • Admit cards can be downloaded from third week of April 2018.
  • Admit cards will be available online only; no hard copy will be issued by CLAT office.
  • No entry will be permitted inside the examination hall without admit card and one valid identity proof

CLAT 2018 Answer Key

  • CLAT 2018 answer key will be available in the third week of May 2018.
  • The correct answers of the online examination of CLAT can be matched with the answer key.
  • Candidates can report if any discrepancy is found in the answer key.

CLAT 2018 Result

  • The tentative time for CLAT 2018 result declaration is the last week of May 2018.
  • The rank and scores obtained by the candidates in entrance exam will be revealed in the result.
  • Candidates can access their results by entering their login credentials.

CLAT 2018 Cut-Off

CLAT 2018 cut-off is issued after the result declaration. The aspects which are considered by the committee while releasing the cut-off are level of difficulty in question paper, how many candidates attempted the exams and trends of previous years.

CLAT 2018 Merit List

  • Two different merit lists will be released for UG & PG programmes.
  • The merit list on the basis of categories will be announced with result.
  • The examinees on state level as well as national level will be mentioned in the merit list.

CLAT Counselling 2018

  • CLAT office organizes centralized counselling for the admission into UG and PG programmes in participating NLUs.
  • CLAT counselling 2018 schedule is expected to be shared in the first week of June 2018.
  • There shall be 4 rounds of online counselling.
  • Seats will be allotted on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’.
  • Candidates, who will successfully secure their admission, will have to pay the counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- at CLAT office. This fee will be adjusted further in admission fee.
